Aims and Methods
CIRCUS as an international form of cultural activity brings ideal possibilities for intercultural exchange.
CIRCUS CULTURE 4 EUROPE will stimulate and promote intercultural exchange und participation of young people by self organised circus activities. The multinational CIRCUS-camp enables young people independent and creative actions in mixed groups. It will have positive affects on the interaction of young people and promotes their social skills, by learning and understanding each other and act together.
On the background of typical, traditional circus-performances in the four countries the CC4E-camp will lead to intercultural synergy and to a broad exchange about the local developments. Variety, similarity, and differences of the cultural backgrounds will be recognized as reality. The variety will be experienced more as chance and less as problem.
The modelling of various aspects of the CIRCUS-arts (theatre, dancing, acrobatics, and music) in workshops by the young participants and the program around will inspire them, to scrutinize the respective cultural and social background in Europe. The own and foreign values and standards will be reflected and the moral concepts relativized.
With CIRCUS CULTURE 4 EUROPE the participation of the youth shall lead to experimental, self-responsible, self-determined and creative process working.
By the participation of the young people in forming the project key skills like self-management, personal resilience and initiative shall be encouraged and improved.
During the workshops the young people can share their experiences in formal as well as no formal settings for learning. Workshops, role plays, activities in circus disciplines (juggling, performing magic, silks, trampoline, trapeze, acrobatics, etc.) and games for warming up are part of the program.
By the exchanges of each social- and cultural background, the living and the mentalities of the four involved countries of Europe, prejudices and anxieties can be reduced. CIRCUS CULTURE 4 EUROPE stimulates the positive conscience of young people about the existence of different cultural identities as well as the dialogue and the intercultural meeting with other young people. Prejudices, racism or xenophobia and any kind of social exclusion will be avoided or will be transformed in a better feeling of tolerance for the variety of cultures by the activities.
CIRCUS CULTURE 4 EUROPE will stimulate the understanding of the people for a European citizenship and will help them, to find out their role and understanding as a part of the present and the future of Europe. Prejudices and hostility to foreigners will be reduced, different religious and cultural backgrounds will get to know, sensibility will be stimulated and species of otherness’s will be accepted and admitted.
Planning and Preparing
To realize the idea, which was raised up in the year 2007, the partners got together in Germany in October 2009 to coordinate the event of 2010. Expectations and methods as well as the financial resources and finally the operative capacities were modulated. As location for 2010 Stuttgart/Germany was elected. A further meeting from 7 to 9 May 2010 brought the division of responsibilities and tasks for the workshops and the surrounding program. In 2011 – supported by »Youth in action« the camp of CIRCUS CULTURE 4 EUROPE will take place in Brno, Czech Republic. For the year 2012 the camp will be prepared in Lodz, Poland, and finally in 2013 Barcelona, Spain will be the location for the camp.
Institutional background in Stuttgart
The Stuttgart Jugendhaus non-profit LLC was established more than 50 years ago. Today it operates 41 facilities with more than 400 employees across the city limits and has thus become the second biggest supporter of open work with children and youth in Germany.
It is even called »Network for young people« and runs with its international projects a special area of operations.
To use synergies, to enrich competences, to optimize personal and financial resources, turning ideas into reality, these are the benefits of multilateral cooperation’s with our partners.
Since 2001 the CIRCUS CIRCULI is en route through almost all city districts for children and youth, who love to fulfill their dream of being part of the circus. In the district »Fasanenhof« the circus »Zarafatzi« and in »Degerloch« the circus »Sepia« is responsible for the circus activities.
The circus camp »CIRCUS CULTURE 4 EUROPE« will be innovative concerning the program und methods of participation.
